Cat-Class Load-Share Path to GT
Your Cat-class fleet already depends on clean load-share and droop settings. When gas turbines join the same bus, a drifting governor or failed share module can turn a step load into a trip that takes your plant down.
You cannot discover share conflicts after the first turbine sync. If paralleling rules stop at the diesel frames, you are carrying outage risk into every new gas machine.
USP&E Helps You Carry Cat-Class Load-Share into GT
We know USP&E is not a Caterpillar dealer, and we also know how often Cat-class share habits get left behind when turbines arrive. USP&E has delivered 150+ power projects in 45+ countries, with 25,000 MW contracted since 2002, and our 400+ engineers and project managers log droop and share error, write combined limits and prove step-load tests when gas turbines parallel with Cat-class fleets. We work under ISO 9001 and ISO 45001 certified systems with FCPA and OFAC controls. USP&E is a full-service EPC and O&M contractor, not a broker.
Log Share Reality on the Diesel Side First
Log Cat-class kW and kVAr share, droop and isochronous settings on a fixed routine. Drifting modules and sticky lines are common, and they will fight gas turbine generators that sync next.
Map which load-share lines and governors will also control the turbine side. Your map should name each module, cable and test point so nothing is assumed.
Write combined share limits before turbines arrive. Diesel-only bands are usually too loose for a mixed bus.
Raise Combined Limits Without Trapping Either Fleet
Set step-load and reject tests for both fleets at the loads your plant actually sees. Quarantine drifting governors before they force a trip at sync.
Plan temporary share modes if one machine must stay offline while controls are rebuilt. A temporary bypass that nobody logs becomes a permanent blind spot.
Plan Cover and Hand Share Rules into O&M
Controls work takes units offline, so plan cover before you open panels. A remanufactured GE Frame 6B or verified used/new gas turbines can carry critical load, and natural gas engines/stations can hold auxiliaries while the work finishes.
Hand the share map, droop settings and acceptance tests into O&M as one file. Tie share-error alarms to CMMS work your shift can run.
If your company also runs compute or campus load elsewhere, the same discipline carries over. AI gas turbines, hyperscale generators and gas turbines for compute need the same rigour, and later blocks such as the New USP&E FX-45 45MW Modular Gas Turbine for the Hyperscale Data Center sector in the USA can join a spine run by one hyperscale EPC/O&M team. Cat-class share discipline then scales into campus growth without a second paralleling redesign.
When you move from Cat-class share to gas turbines, keep one load-share playbook across both fleets. Document which machine is isochronous, which units run droop, and how you shed non-critical feeders if a breaker trips. Your operators need the same cards whether they stand in front of a diesel board or a GT HMI. USP&E is a full-service EPC and O&M contractor, not a broker, so we write those cards into the O&M pack before energisation. Tie each share alarm to a CMMS work order and re-test after every firmware change. If you later add remanufactured GE Frame 6B capacity or new gas turbines on the same bus, the share rules stay stable and your mine or plant spine does not need a second control philosophy.

USP&E Track Record for Cat-Class Power
You want proof that USP&E has delivered accountable power where diesel fleets and turbines share one bus. These projects show that record.
- USP&E supplied 28 Cummins KTA50 containerised diesel gensets, 1,275 kVA each, for Perseus Mining’s Nyanzaga Gold Project in Tanzania.
- Barrick Gold, Loulo-Gounkoto, Mali: USP&E rebuilt more than 80 MW of Caterpillar CM32 engines and added 24 MW of new zero-hour capacity, delivering a 104 MW station with 300% greater reliability and availability than previously recorded at site. Read the case study.
- Mining O&M recovery, Mali: USP&E took over a 100+ MW plant of 15 Cat CM32 engines left in critical condition, restored availability to about 95% and cut maintenance and repair cost per engine by 66%. Read the case study.
HowTo: Carry Load-Share Discipline into GT
Your 3-step plan: 1. Share droop logs, share traces and bus layouts under NDA. 2. Receive a combined load-share plan and a cover plan. 3. Apply the limits, then run them under accountable O&M.
- Log Cat-class kW and kVAr share, droop and isochronous settings on a fixed routine.
- Map which load-share lines and governors will also control gas turbine generators on the same bus.
- Write combined share limits and step-load tests before turbines sync.
- Quarantine drifting governors and failed share modules before they force a trip.
- Plan cover with natural gas engines/stations or a remanufactured GE Frame 6B while controls work runs.
- Trend share error after turbines join, and update the CMMS with shared acceptance tests.

FAQ: Cat-Class Load-Share Path to GT
Why does Cat-class load-share matter when turbines arrive?
USP&E sees many sites where diesel share looks stable until gas turbine generators sync and a drifting module tips the bus. Your paralleling rules must cover both fleets before first fire. Step-load surprises are how mixed plants trip at the worst hour.
Is USP&E a Caterpillar dealer?
USP&E is not a Caterpillar dealer. USP&E is a full-service EPC and O&M contractor that helps you carry Cat-class load-share discipline into turbine paralleling with accountable engineers. You get one team for the path from diesel practice to gas machines.
What tests prove share is ready for turbines?
USP&E runs step-load and reject tests at the loads your bus actually sees, and proves droop and share error on both fleets. Your crew also logs every temporary bypass with a time limit. Paper settings alone never clear a mixed bus for energisation.
What cover should you plan during controls work?
USP&E plans natural gas engines/stations or a remanufactured GE Frame 6B while governors and share modules are open. You set that cover before the outage starts, so a controls upgrade does not become a production outage for your whole plant.
Where are USP&E’s offices that support this work?
USP&E anchors Cat-class load-share work in Johannesburg and Cape Town, where electrical and controls engineers sit close to your bus. London structures contracts and finance, Colorado Springs and Knoxville reach US equipment supply, and Wuxi supports China supply chain and manufacturing. Every office works from the same project file.
Has USP&E delivered power projects like this before?
USP&E supplied 28 Cummins KTA50 containerised diesel gensets, 1,275 kVA each, for Perseus Mining’s Nyanzaga Gold Project in Tanzania. Public case studies also cover Barrick, Resolute and Kinross, where accountable EPC and O&M kept industrial power online. You can read each case study and judge the evidence yourself.
Is USP&E a broker for this equipment?
USP&E is not a broker. USP&E is a full-service EPC and O&M contractor that engineers, supplies, builds, commissions and operates power plants with its own engineers and project managers, so the team that proves your share limits stays accountable when turbines sync. You deal with one accountable team from first review to O&M.
How fast can USP&E respond on this topic?
USP&E can start reviewing your droop logs, share traces and bus drawings as soon as you share them under NDA. Engineers flag drifting modules first, then issue the combined plan, with timing set by data quality and site access for your team.
Share Load Across Cat-Class and GT Fleets Cleanly
Get shared load-share right and your diesels and turbines ride step loads without trips. Get it wrong and the first sign is a bus collapse at sync. USP&E will help you log, limit and prove the bus with confidence.
